Osnovni cilj studijskog programa Vazdušni saobraćaj je obrazovanje strukovnih inženjera, koji će imati potrebna znanja, sposobnosti i veštine za uspešno obavljanje inženjerskih poslova u oblasti vazdušnog saobraćaja (VS) i potrebna znanja, sposobnosti i veštine za sticanje dozvole Profesionalnog pilota sa ovlašćenjem za instrumentalno letenje ATPL – Airline Transport Pilot Licence u skladu sa EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) Flight Crew Licencing (Part – FCL). Različitosti u sadržajima izbornih predmeta omogućuju studentima osposobljavanje za jednu od dve specijalnosti: Pilot aviona ATPL (A) – Airline Transport Pilot Licence i Pilot helikoptera ATPL (N) – Airline Transport Pilot Licence. Obavezni predmeti, kao i izborni predmeti, definisani su na osnovu zahteva koje propisuje EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) Flight Crew Licencing – Part – FCL.
Svrha studijskog programa osnovnih strukovnih studija Vazdušni saobraćaj je da obrazuje strukovne inženjere vazdušnog saobraćaja pilote u skladu sa prepoznatim potrebama tržišta rada. Zasnovan je na savremenom kurikulumu i savremenim nastavnim planovima predmeta koji prate trendove i tokove u oblasti školovanja pilota aviona i pilota helikoptera. Realizacijom studijskog programa školuju se strukovni inženjeri za sticanje dozvola profesionalnih pilota aviona i pilota helikoptera.
Studijski program je usmeren na permanentno praćenje međunarodne i nacionalne vazduhoplovne regulative koja se odnosi na školovanje i obuku pilota aviona i pilota helikoptera, kako bi se sagledali zahtevi promena standarda u cilju osavremenjivanja sadržaja i metoda nastavnog procesa.
